Types of Ostomy SystemsOstomy systems may include a one-piece or two-piece system. Both kinds include a flange (barrier or wafer) and a collection pouch. In the one-piece ostomy system, the flange and the pouch are attached to each other and cannot be separated. In the two-piece ostomy system, the flange and the pouch are separate and it is possible to use (change) different types of pouches for different occasions, while the same flange remains on the body.
